Ovulation Test strips

Clearblue fertility monitor test strips for use with Clearblue fertility calculator monitor.

An essential part of the Clearblue Fertility Monitor and suitable for women whose natural cycle normally lasts between 21 and 42 days. The majority of women will need 10 Test Sticks in each cycle. However, women with irregular or long cycles may have to use 20 Test Sticks each cycle in order to detect their most fertile time.

Clearblue Fertility Monitor

- proven to almost double the chances of conceiving1

The Clearblue Fertility Monitor is the most advanced home method of maximising your chances of getting pregnant.

Research shows that the Clearblue Fertility Monitor increases the chances of conceiving by 89% over the first two cycles of use1.

Most home ovulation tests identify the 2 peak fertility days during your cycle by detecting the surge in Luteinising Hormone (LH) that triggers ovulation. The Clearblue Fertility Monitor is unique as it tracks 2 hormones to typically identify up to 6 fertile days – it not only shows you your 2 peak fertility days, it can also inform most women of an extra 1-5 days of high fertility prior to their peak fertility. Since your partner’s sperm can survive in your body for several days, making love on all of these days can lead to conception.

How does the Clearblue Fertility Monitor work?

The Clearblue Fertility Monitor stores information about your personal hormone patterns and personalises itself.

  • It counts the days and tells you which days to test.
  • It tells you when you’re having Low, High and Peak Fertility days.
  • It even warns you when your period is due. This allows you to prepare for your next cycle, or, if you think your period is late, to test for pregnancy.
  • It’s natural, non-invasive and easy to use.

The Clearblue Fertility Monitor is suitable for women whose natural cycle normally lasts between 21 and 42 days.

How can the Clearblue Fertility Monitor maximise my chances of getting pregnant?

In a study, use of the Clearblue Fertility Monitor was proven to increase the chances of conception by 89%.1

The Clearblue Fertility Monitor detects the days in each cycle when you’re most likely to get pregnant. It does this by monitoring two hormones: estrogen and Luteinising Hormone (LH).

Estrogen is produced in your body on the days leading up to ovulation. When an increase in estrogen is detected by the Clearblue Fertility Monitor, it indicates that you’ve reached High Fertility, which is typically displayed for 1-5 days prior to Peak Fertility. Since sperm can survive in your body for several days, by making love on these days, you increase your chances of getting pregnant when you ovulate a couple of days later.

LH is the hormone that triggers the release of an egg from your ovary. This release – ovulation – usually occurs approximately 24 to 36 hours after the LH surge. When the Clearblue Fertility Monitor detects your LH surge, it displays Peak Fertility status. Making love on these 2 days maximises your chances of becoming pregnant.

How accurate is the Clearblue Fertility Monitor?

The Clearblue Fertility Monitor has been shown in laboratory testing to be 99% accurate in detecting the LH surge in cycles in which an LH surge had also been identified by a reference method.

How do I use the Clearblue Fertility Monitor?

Please note these are abbreviated instructions. Always read the in-pack Instruction Booklet before carrying out a test.

The Clearblue Fertility Monitor consists of Test Sticks and a hand-held Monitor. All you need to do are simple urine tests each cycle when the Monitor asks you to.

The disposable Test Sticks collect hormones from your first urine of the day. The Monitor reads the Test Stick, interprets your hormone changes, and tells you clearly if your fertile status will be low, high or peak, for the next 24 hours.

Getting Started
You can start using your Monitor on the first day of your next cycle (but not before). On this day, you set the ‘m’ Button, which tells the Monitor that your period has started and a new cycle has begun. It also establishes the 6 hour Testing Window in which you can do a test, so it’s a good idea to do this at a time when you normally get up in the morning.

Then all you need to do is switch on your Clearblue Fertility Monitor every day at any time in the 6 hour Testing Window. You’ll see the ‘m’ Symbol displayed for the first 5 days of each cycle. The number on the display screen changes each day to show you which day of your cycle you are on. On days when the Monitor needs further information about your hormone changes, it will request a test.

Performing a Test
When your Monitor asks you to perform a test, you remove a Test Stick from its protective wrapper and use it immediately. You take a sample of your urine by holding the Sampling End of the Test Stick pointing downwards in your urine stream for 3 seconds only. Alternatively, you can collect a sample in a clean, dry container and hold the Sampling End in the urine for 15 seconds. It’s important to use the first urine after you wake up, as this contains the highest concentration of hormones.

Next, keeping the Test Stick pointing downwards, you take the cap off the handle and place it over the ‘wet’ end of the Test Stick. You are now ready to insert the Test Stick in the Test Stick Slot of the Monitor as shown in the in-pack Instruction Bookletor the Clearblue Fertility Monitor usage animation.

When you have inserted the Test Stick correctly, the Test Stick Symbol will flash for approximately 5 minutes while the Monitor reads and interprets the information from your Test Stick. After approximately 5 minutes, the Monitor will ask you to remove the Test Stick, which you can throw away. The Monitor will now display your fertile status.

Your Fertile Status
The Clearblue Fertility Monitor shows your fertile status using a series of bars on the display: one bar for Low Fertility, two bars for High Fertility and three bars for Peak Fertility.

  • Low Fertility:
Low Fertility is displayed at times in the cycle when your fertility hormones are low. You may still wish to make love on a Low Fertility day, of course, but it’s unlikely – though not impossible – that you will conceive.
  • High Fertility:
High Fertility is displayed when the Clearblue Fertility Monitor detects an increase in estrogen, which occurs as you approach Peak Fertility. If you make love on days of High Fertility you will increase your chances of becoming pregnant.
  • Peak Fertility:
Peak fertility is displayed around the time when you ovulate (when an egg is released). If you make love during this time, you have the greatest chance of becoming pregnant.

Approaching the end of your cycle
The Clearblue Fertility Monitor lets you know when you are approaching the end of your cycle – the ‘m’ Symbol begins to flash you can prepare for your next cycle, or, if you think your period is late, to test for pregnancy.

You can find out if you’re pregnant by using a pregnancy test such as Clearblue, which gives you a clear result and is more than 99% accurate when used from the day your period is due. Click here to find out more about Clearblue Pregnancy Tests.

How effective will the Clearblue Fertility Monitor be for me?

The Clearblue Fertility Monitor can detect Peak Fertility in cycles of 21 to 42 days. If you make love during High and Peak Fertility it can help maximise your chances of conceiving your baby. It’s important, of course, to remember that no products can guarantee success in achieving pregnancy.

Is the Clearblue Fertility Monitor suitable for me?

The Clearblue Fertility Monitor is suitable for you if your natural cycle normally lasts between 21 and 42 days. The majority of women will need 10 Test Sticks in each cycle. Women with irregular or long cycles may have to use 20 Test Sticks each cycle in order to detect their most fertile time.

Certain medical conditions and medications can adversely affect the performance of the Clearblue Fertility Monitor. If you have menopausal symptoms, polycystic ovarian syndrome, impaired liver or kidney function, or if you are pregnant or have recently been pregnant (even if not carried to full term), you may get misleading results.

You may also get misleading results if you are using antibiotics containing tetracyclines, hormonal treatments (e.g. hormonal contraception, hormone replacement therapy), fertility treatments containing human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG) or Luteinising Hormone (LH), or any treatment that might affect your cycle.

If you’re taking clomiphene citrate, we advise you to consult your doctor for advice before using the Clearblue Fertility Monitor. Clomiphene citrate can raise oestrogen levels and this may result in High Fertility being declared early in the cycle and more High Fertility days being displayed, and in some cases the Monitor may not show Peak Fertility even when ovulation occurs.

We recommend that you always read the manufacturers instructions for any medication you are taking before conducting a test.

If you’ve recently been breastfeeding, using hormonal treatments (e.g. hormonal contraception, including emergency contraception, fertility treatments, hormone replacement therapy), or any other treatment that might affect your cycle, you should wait until you’ve had at least two natural menstrual cycles in a row (each lasting 21-42 days), before using the Clearblue Fertility Monitor.

Similarly, if you have recently been pregnant (even if not carried to full term) we advise you to wait until you’ve had at least two natural menstrual cycles in a row (each lasting 21-42 days) before using the Clearblue Fertility Monitor. This is to ensure that the results are not affected by any hCG you may still have in your body just after pregnancy.

Please speak to your doctor if you need further advice.

Please Note: There are no products available that can guarantee success in achieving pregnancy. The Clearblue Fertility Monitor is designed to help you become pregnant and is NOT intended to be used for contraception. Some medications are contra-indicated in pregnancy and we therefore recommend that you consult your doctor if you are taking any medication before you try to conceive. Couples with medically diagnosed fertility problems should consult their doctor before using this product.

What conditions or medication could interfere with my test result?

Most medications (e.g. simple painkillers and cold remedies) shouldn’t affect the way the Clearblue Fertility Monitor works. But some medical conditions and medications can affect the Monitor’s performance. You can find out about them by reading Is the Clearblue Fertility Monitor suitable for me? section. We strongly advise you to always read the manufacturers instructions for any medication you are taking before using the Clearblue Fertility Monitor, and if in any doubt, to speak to your doctor.

I have recently been pregnant. Will this affect my test result?

If you have recently been pregnant (even if not carried to full term) I’d advise you to wait until you’ve had at least two natural menstrual cycles in a row (each lasting 21-42 days) before using the Clearblue Fertility Monitor. This is to ensure that you get accurate readings that are not affected by any hCG you may still have in your body just after pregnancy.

Will oral contraceptives affect the result?

After using the pill (or emergency contraception) it’s a good idea to wait until you’ve had at least two natural menstrual cycles in a row (each lasting 21-42 days) before using the Clearblue Fertility Monitor. This should give your cycle time to stabilise.

I’ve been using basal body temperature and home ovulation tests. Does the Clearblue Fertility Monitor replace these?

The advantage of the Clearblue Fertility Monitor over the basal body temperature method is that it predicts ovulation before it happens. This gives you more time to take advantage of all your fertile days.

The Clearblue Fertility Monitor does everything home ovulation tests can do, and much more. It not only shows your 2 Peak Fertility days, it also identifies additional days when you can conceive. By detecting a rise in oestrogen, it can show most women an extra 1-5 days of High Fertility. This way you’ll know all the days when making love is most likely to lead to conception. It also counts your days for you, tells you which days to test, interprets the tests, displays your fertile status every day and develops a personalised understanding of your cycle.

Do I have to use my first urine of the day to do the tests?

It’s important for you to use your first urine after sleeping as this contains the highest concentration of hormones.

Since it tells me when I’m fertile, can I use the Clearblue Fertility Monitor as a contraceptive?

No. The Clearblue Fertility Monitor is designed to tell you when you’re most likely to conceive. As sperm can survive for several days, you may still have a chance of becoming pregnant if you make love before you detect your High or Peak Fertility.

Can I be sure of getting pregnant if I am using the Clearblue Fertility Monitor?

There are no products available that can guarantee success in achieving pregnancy. However, the Clearblue Fertility Monitor has been proven to almost double the chances of conceiving.1 It allows you to make the best use of your natural fertility by timing your lovemaking around ovulation. The majority of conceptions occur in a 6-day window around ovulation. The Clearblue Fertility Monitor is a simple, effective way of identifying your most fertile days, helping you maximise your chances of conceiving.

Can I stop using the Clearblue Fertility Monitor and start again in the future?

Yes. You can simply remove the batteries and store the Monitor in a dry place. You’ll find instructions on how to restart your Monitor in the Instruction Booklet provided with it.

I have been using Clearblue Fertility Monitor for several cycles and have still not become pregnant. Why not?

Conception is a complex biological process and there are many influencing factors. It’s important to remember that it can take many months to become pregnant. If conception has not been achieved after 6 consecutive cycles, or you have other concerns, it would be advisable to consult your doctor.
