What’s the difference between Effaclar Duo+ and Effaclar H?
Both Effaclar Duo+ and Effaclar H moisturisers are suitable for oily or acne-prone skin. However, while Duo+ is particularly good for controlling acne and inflammation, H is designed to repair and protect skin which has become very fragile as a result of harsh acne treatments.
1. Product aims
Effaclar Duo+ is designed specifically for acne-prone skin. It works to hydrate the skin without leaving it feeling oily or contributing to clogged pores which lead to breakouts. It can help to minimise the appearance of lasting acne marks, reduce inflammation caused by breakouts, and prevent hyperpigmentation caused by persistent breakouts. Duo+ moisturises the skin while controlling shine, and is suitable for sensitive, oily skin.
Effaclar H is a soothing moisturiser that is also suitable for skin susceptible to breakouts, however it contains protective, hydrating properties to help repair skin damage. It is designed specifically for skin that has been made fragile by skin treatments and medications which dry out the skin in order to tackle acne. Many acne treatments such as Roaccutane work to minimise the skin’s production of sebum to reduce the frequency and severity of pimples, but they can leave the skin very dry, flaky, tight, and sensitive as a result. Effaclar H works to restore the skin’s protective lipid layers, leaving the face feeling soft, soothed and more comfortable.
2. Ingredients
A key difference between Effaclar Duo+ and Effaclar H is that the latter contains Bisabolol. This ingredient soothes irritation and reduces inflammation which is ideal for fragile, sensitive skin which is susceptible to redness. The product also contains Ceramide 5, which works to reinforce the barrier function of the skin to stop harmful bacteria and irritants from penetrating the skin and causing further blemishes or imperfections.
The Duo+ moisturiser contains salicylic acid, an ingredient well known for fighting pimples, which helps it to control breakouts. However, the addition of thermal spring water and niacinamide gives it a soothing, anti-inflammatory effect which prevents it from being too harsh on sensitive skin and reduces redness.
3. Formula and texture
Effaclar Duo+ is oil-free and has a texture that is somewhere between a cream and gel. It’s also free from alcohol. This gives it a lightweight texture that is easily absorbed into the skin.
Effaclar H also has a lightweight, non-greasy texture, however is slightly more nourishing than the Duo+. It feels soothing and like Duo+, it is easily absorbed.
4. How should the skin feel after using the product?
Effaclar Duo+ should leave the skin feeling hydrated yet mattified. The skin does not feel greasy or coated after application, which means makeup can easily be applied on top.
Effaclar H leaves skin feeling fresh, clean, hydrated and calm. It does not sit on top of the skin or feel sticky, and it can be applied before makeup. Despite its hydrating properties, it will not leave skin feeling oily.
5. Price
Effaclar Duo+ is €21.05 for 40ml of product, while Effaclar H is €18.50 for 40ml. Although the Duo+ is slightly more expensive, the additional cost is minimal and likely worthwhile if the product is more suitable for your skin concern.
Which product is more suitable for me?
Effaclar Duo+ is best suited to those who are susceptible to blackheads, cysts and irregular skin texture, but who are not currently using any other acne treatments or medications. It’s great for skin which has hyperpigmentation, redness or lasting acne marks as it will help to refine the skin’s texture and give a smoother appearance while regulating future breakouts.
